Create Your First Template

Create Your First Template

A template controls how your labels look — the size, layout, and what data to show. You need at least one template before you can print.

Step by Step

Go to Templates from the left sidebar in your Shopify admin.
Click Create product label template (or Create address label template for shipping labels).
Give your template a name by clicking the pencil icon at the top.

Set up your paper

Click Configure (top right) to open the paper settings.
Step 1 — Label & Paper: Choose your paper brand and model.
  • Brand: Avery, Brother, Dymo, Zebra, or Custom
  • Model: Roll label, Multi-column label, or Sheet label
  • For sheet labels, set the number of rows, columns, and sheet size (A4, A5, Letter, or Custom)
Step 2 — Label Size: Set the label width, height, and margins. You can switch between Inch and Millimeter.
  • If you picked a brand template (like Avery), the size is set automatically
  • Check "I want set manually" only if you need custom dimensions
    Click Save to apply.

Add elements to your label

Use the left sidebar to add elements:
  • Text — product name, price, SKU, or any custom text
  • Barcode — product barcode in various formats
  • QR Code — link to product URL or custom data
  • Image — product image or a static logo
Click an element to select it, then drag to move or resize it on the canvas.
For each element, set the "Link to" field to connect it to your store data (e.g., PRODUCT_NAME, PRICE, BARCODE).

Preview and save

Click Preview to see how your label will look with real data.
Click Save (purple button, top right) when you're happy.

Tips

  • Roll labels (like Brother or Dymo) are the simplest — one label per row, just set the width and height.
  • Sheet labels (like Avery) need rows, columns, and sheet size. The margins control the spacing between labels.
  • Multi-column labels are side-by-side labels on a roll. Set the number of columns in the paper config.
  • You can always come back and edit your template later from the Templates page.
